Doctors often call this the ‘master mineral’ because deficiency in it can cause high blood pressure, muscle spasms, anxiety, constipation and a host of other health conditions.

Am I deficient?

  • Do you drink caffeine, alcohol and/or carbonated drinks?
  • Do you take asthma medication, diuretics, birth control pills or heart medication?

Why is there a deficiency?

Magnesium is an essential mineral responsible for carrying out over 300 roles in the body, including protein synthesis, energy production, bone formation, and muscle relaxation.

But due to modern intensive farming methods our top soils have been stripped of increasing amounts of nutrients from the soil. 

A Kushi Institute analysis of nutrient data from 1975 to 1997 found that average calcium levels in 12 fresh vegetables dropped 27 percent; iron levels 37 percent; vitamin A levels 21 percent, and vitamin C levels 30 percent. There are many other studies that support these findings.

However it's not only farming methods that are depleting our magnesium and mineral levels.  Our modern day diet that is high in sugar, salt, and protein accelerates magnesium loss.  It takes 287 molecules of magnesium to break down just 1 molecule of glucose!

Mental and emotional stress increases levels of adrenaline and cortisol and magnesium is needed to balance this out. At the same time, physical stress from toxins and foreign chemicals require magnesium to help remove them.

 How do we replenish our magnesium levels?

  • We can take magnesium supplements, but be sure to choose natural and easily absorbable ones.
  • One of the best ways to absorb magnesium is through our skin through a salt water bath. Foot soaks with high quality and pure salts are a great way to relax after a long day.
